...and you thought Halloween was only one day a year!
The kids have now finished their 4-day marathon of Halloween goodness, and you'll see a recap right here!
It all began at the church's Trunk-or-Treat on Wednesday night!
When they got home, they really wanted to see themselves, so they ran into the half-bath to look in the mirror...
Thursday and Friday were Halloween parties at school, culminating in a big Trick-or-Treat parade around the church to all our offices. Here they are visiting me outside my office:
...and since Layna had already been seen at school in her ballerina outfit, she couldn't risk ruining her fashionable reputation, so she had to find something new (to her) to wear:
And tonight, the kids set out to Trick-or-Treat for real - door to door! First, they had to get ready...

Halloween Teaser
I'm sorry, but I can' post (for real) Halloween pictures before Halloween! ...but I can post a teaser.
Last week Layna wore her Halloween shirt from Gigi to school and I grabbed a quick picture:
And last Wednesday was the Day School's Trunk-or-Treat at the church. It was so much fun! There was a competition for the best trunk... here's mine:
So, who won? All the children who attended were given a raffle ticket and they could put their ticket in the bucket of the car that they liked the most. Officially I came in 2nd, but that was a technicality because I had to go inside for our Wednesday night program before the official end of the judging, but I had a couple extra tickets after the fact that would have put me over the top... so the other car can take the winner's gift certificate, but I'll take the pride of being the real #1!

Sweet treats
For whatever reason, I've really been into popsicles recently. One happy side effect of my new obsession is that I get to share these sweet treats with my little sweetie. Layna LOVES popsicles and wants one whenever I have one. Here's a look at the cuteness that ensues:

Picking a Pumpkin
We love a good pumpkin patch! (really, who doesn't?) The kids were thrilled to go to one of our local Alabama patches... but what we hadn't planned on was how COLD it was going to be! Even though the temperature was only in the upper 40s, the wind chill was down around 40 degrees. That would be fine at the end of winter, but at the beginning, it feels very cold!
Accordingly, we bundled the kids...
First stop? The inflatables, of course!
Now Brayden may love to climb and crawl, but Layna loves to slide! When she saw this mother...
...it was ON! She wasn't just ready to slide, she was ready to slide by herself!
Nic tried to slide with her a few times, but she kept pulling away from her and wanting to go by herself, so ok! She's a little daredevil and loved every moment!
It was finally time to go to the pumpkin patch. After a short hayride, we were there!

And there was the obligatory haystack picture... what can I say? We tried.

Milestones
A young man will encounter many milestones in life, and although there are many, there are a handful that stand more significantly than the rest. On Thursday night, Brayden reached one of the greats - his first Snickers. Yes, readers, Brayden has now reached a new level of enlightenment, and here's the proof!
And although Layna wasn't able to partake in chocolate, nougat, peanuts and caramel goodness that is a Snickers, she did get a special Halloween cookie!

The princess
Layna's been a joy to watch become a little kid over the last couple months. Her verbal skill are developing quickly, making her less and less frustrated around the house since she can communicate more clearly every day.
Some funny things about her... She's made the little couch-cubby her own. She'll even sit in it to watch TV or read a book!
AND, one of the cutest things in the last week, is when Layna did a test run of her Halloween costume: a ballerina. She absolutely LOVED it and didn't want to take it off! Even Brayden said, "Mama, Layna's a princess!"

Rolling around
The kids are really enjoying each other, especially now that Layna's getting better and better at just playing with Brayden. Tuesday night, I caught them rolling around with each other in what should be our dining room, but what we call the Playroom Annex. Most of the video is just fun play, but the end is not. However, at the end of the video you can see how sweet Brayden is to Layna (whenever she's upset, he always sings to her). Enjoy!

Mr. Conductor
As you know, Halloween is coming up. But this costume was just an exciting gift from Gigi that Brayden couldn't wait to try on. Luckily, we had a train whistle that he could wear with the outfit and proceeded to "choo-choo" all over the house!

Time with Nama
Brayden and Layna loved their time with Nama, and the pictures show it! (all except a finger puppet debacle... see below...)
...and as mentioned above, there was an unfortunate finger puppet incident... Nama and Gigi brought some very sweet mittens with them as gifts for the kids, and one each finger of the mittens there was a little puppet. But the mittens were, how shall I say it, ill-received. ;)

The Greek Festival
I can't seem to get regular updates on this little blog, people! I think I'm getting confused between Facebook and this blog. When I post a picture or story there, I forget to put something here, too.
So... on to a recap of the last couple weeks! A couple weekends ago, my mom and grandmother were in town for a visit and it just happened to be the same weekend as the Birmingham Greek Festival -- one of our favorite events of the year! The festival is held at Holy Trinity-Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Cathedral downtown. In addition to all the cultural fun at the festival, there is the food... good, home cooking...
I can't even tell you how wonderful the food is - particularly the spanakopita (the best I've ever had!). As you can see, Layna loved it, too!
After dinner, we went inside the cathedral's parking garage where they setup a stage and have traditional Greek dancing, featuring the kids of the cathedral parish. Brayden and Layna couldn't get enough of it!
