Last weekend proved to be a wonderful day for the little Mama -- she was showered with friends at the Cheesecake Factory! Seminary girlfriends came together to organize a great Sunday-afternoon shower for Nicole... and what a great time she had!
Gifts flowed like strawberry lemonade:
In addition to finished gifts, Beth is knitting a very sweet dress for Layna. Here's the progress so far:
Although gifts were shared, there's one reason to do a shower at the Cheesecake Factory... the food! They drank...
...and ate!
Everyone had a great time. Here are a few group pictures, although not everyone is here (sorry!).
Stay tuned... Nicole has promised a side-shot later this week! :)

All is well!
Yesterday's appointment went very well, including the most important part: Layna has moved head-down!! She is NOT breech! Nicole had to ask the doctor a few times in a few ways, just to confirm the good news. :) Layna's measuring well, somewhere between 7-7.5 lbs. The doctor said that she could gain up to another pound, but will likely be about as big as Brayden (just over 8 lbs.). That's good news on multiple levels: she's healthy and she's big, but not too big! We're just praying that her head isn't as big as Brayden's was...
Before we get to the pictures: Happy 21 Month Birthday, Brayden!!
Now on to your B-boy story-of-the-day. A couple days ago, Brayden (back in his highchair... again...) was plenty tired while eating lunch. As you can see, he was VERY tired. He literally fell asleep in the chair.
Even though it's hard to see, he is actually asleep!

Where does the time go?
My, oh my. Where does the time go?!
As you can see, we're very close to Layna's due date (translation: anytime!). We have an appointment today to check her position. Obviously, we're hoping that she's not breech! I'm sure we'll let you know very soon.
Nicole's been feeling pretty good. She certainly hasn't been in any regular pain, although last night she spent some time on a barstool and that didn't "sit" right. BUT, save precarious positions, she's doing remarkably well.
Brayden's been as crazy as ever. He's been talking up a storm, clarifying his words and repeating things with greater ease every day. I know that I reported he had turned his back on his highchair, but I haven't. I still put him in it because it (a) contains the food properly and (b) contains HIM properly! We celebrated nothing special the other night with burgers and fries and Brayden had his very first ketchup (I know the Roenicks will be VERY proud!):
I apologize for our mundane commentary, but I'm confident that there are many of you out there who remember that sweet delicacy fondly. I promise the next update won't be too far behind...

Happy V-day!
It seems like forever since we're seen on another... over a week! Pardon my absence, but I've been otherwise occupied. Things are going very well, including Nicole's state of being. She's feeling good, if a bit tired, and Layna's getting BIG! :)
Today, we celebrate our messy son. Now that he has officially opted out of his highchair when he can, it's sometimes fun to put him back in it for this:
Who can resist a kid with a messy face?!

On our way to Birmingham!
It's official -- we're going to Birmingham! Today was a BIG day. Not only was our bid for a home accepted by the sellers, but I received approval from my bishop to accept the position at St. Luke's in Birmingham! Yay! We're thrilled to have this nailed down as we begin the run-up to Ms. Layna.
Here's our future house:

Art
Art can take many forms. For this post, we will focus on three of them: word art, visual art, and craft art, respectively.
#1 - Brayden continues to improve his language skills. Just in the past couple days, he has gone from spelling his name after seeing the preceding letters (like on the video from Tuesday) to simply rattling it off just as you or I would. Seriously, we simply say, "Brayden, how do you spell your name?" To which he replies straight away, "B-R-A-Y-D-E-N," just as quickly as you could say the letters yourself. I promise that I won't brag on my son all the time, but come on. That is great stuff!! Now I'm just afraid that he'll think he's smarter than his Mom and Dad (our parents probably think it's payback!).
#2 - Brayden had his first Gymboree art class this week (his art-teacher mother took him, how lucky!) and here is the masterwork he produced:
I'm no are historian (Annie Cumberland) but I'd say he's on a path to interpreting the artistic perspective of his generation. Just sayin'.
#3 - Our great friend, Beth (also pregnant, or as she says, "Prego," and can be found here) has taken up knitting. Although she's not been doing this very long, she's a natural and knits like the wind. She heard about Brayden's over-sized melon (he's already outgrown his 4T hat!) and decided to help him out. She made this beauty:
Is there really anything better than a cute kid in a goofy hat?
Incidentally, this hat fits B perfectly... it's sized at an adult medium.
My, oh, my.
