When two geeks procreate...
...they beget two more geeks.
Brayden, and now Layna, are clearly of the geek variety. There are so many ways to know that Brayden is a geek, and so little time to share. First of all, he's been able to read the alphabet since he was 18 months, he can now read (yes, actually read) quite a few words, and his two favorite TV shows are WordWorld and Super Why!. (NOTE: those links take you to YouTube where you can watch the openings of each show. Please, please... go there and watch -- they're so very cute!)
Now none of that specifically translates into "geek," but let me assure you, he's not terribly interested in doing much else except learning things. His free time is spent spelling words (ala "super letters") and putting together puzzles. There is also some significant anecdotal evidence to support my claim:
Brayden was sick a couple weeks ago and we had to take him to see the doctor. As the nurse was measuring his height (38 in!!), he began counting the numbers on the scale, from 90 to 100, clear as a bell. The nurse just blanked, asked his age, and then said, "I have 6-year-olds who can't do that!"
And as if that wasn't enough, our Buggie loves to read, too!
Parental note: I think the two shows listed above -- WordWorld and Super Why! -- are fantastic. (Obviously that's a sign of the unfortunate genetics that both kids have inherited...) In any case, I highly recommend them to any of you with 2-5 year old kids. They're very entertaining and extremely educational. I think your kids will love them (almost as much as Brayden and me!).

The End of Poverty
Today marks an important day as a large number of world leaders gather in New York in an effort to coordinate their countries to eradicate extreme poverty by 2015. Find out more information here on how we can make it happen.

Layna's Digits
How could our baby girl be more than six months old?! It seems like just a few weeks ago when we brought her home (above), but now she's moving closer and closer to being a legitimate toddler.
Yesterday was Layna's 6-month doctor's appointment, and she is growing fast! She measured 16 lbs. 9 oz. (55th %tile) and 27 inches long (85th %tile). She's following Brayden in height -- two tall kids! Love to you all!

Artistry
Nicole has been busting out all her Gymboree experience (she was the art teacher) to bring a little art into Brayden's life. She took him outside -- in this beautiful weather!! -- to do a little painting. We threw him in his "painting" clothes (attractive) and let him go!
Yes, that shirt does say "Jesus Christ: He's the real thing" -- how funny is that?! It was a free shirt I got years ago, well before we had even begun trying to have kids, and thought it might come in handy one day... look at that!

Happy (Half) Birthday!
Our little baby girl is 6-months-old today! My how the time flies. She's already such a big girl -- sitting up without any issues, chattering away, eating fruits and veggies, (almost) sleeping through the night, and nearly crawling! Wow!
So here's to you, Buggie! Here are some very recent pictures of our little doll. Enjoy!
...and for her fans:
Layna loves to play with all of Brayden's toys, as you can see. She goes after anything that plays a melody, so she was naturally drawn to his kitty keyboard!

Got Church?
In case you missed church or just want more (and who doesn't?), here's my sermon from Sunday. Enjoy at your own risk.
Another bubble bath!
Mr. B loves his bubble baths, and ever since our trip to Myrtle Beach and his awesome bubble bath, I've been wanting to try out the jetted tub in our master bathroom. So... as suspected, one jetted tub is just like another (incredible!). The bubbles were HUGE -- I could hardly believe it! Here are the great pictures of a very bubbly boy.
We had to begin somewhere:
...sinking in...
Here's the silly boy!

Bouncy girl
Layna is VERY active these days. She loves to jump, loves to stand, and loves to squeal with glee! We started putting her in our Jumperoo a couple weeks ago, and she took to it with great joy. Here are some pictures and a video to boot!
Laugh Out Loud
I'm sorry not to have any pictures for you (boo hiss), but I do have a hilarious and not-kid-friendly article from the current issue of the New Yorker for you to read here ...laugh out loud.

Sugar Saturday
Parental Disclaimer: This post is ALL ABOUT SUGAR! Let your children read at your own risk.
Now back to the story...
If it's Saturday, then it's sugar! Brayden has been chock full of yummy sugar lately (much to our joy!). He's been having great fun with "cookies and birthday cakes!" Last weekend, we got little cupcakes at the store so Brayden could have a couple instead of just one, and from then on, he would walk around the house asking, "Two birthday cakes, please??" Too funny. Here he is enjoying his two birthday cakes:
If TWO birthday cakes weren't enough, during the week we busted out the cookie dough! Brayden loves Play-Doh, and so we thought that giving him the chance the play with real dough would be great fun!
After the cookies were sprinkled (of course!) and cooked up in the oven, Brayden got to work! (I can't deny that we helped out...)
A little note -- Brayden's been feeling bad the last couple days. He's trying to get over the runny nose he's had since preschool began... but today he spiked a high fever. As of tonight, the fever has gone down to a lower level, but he's still not up to par. Say a little prayer for him! :)
