The wait is finally over!! Although it took a week, I finally got around to editing Layna's birthday pictures. Layna had a fabulous time, as I'm sure you'll see from the pictures. We held the party at a local Palm Harbor park at a pavilion on the lake. It was a beautiful day and family and friends had a great time. Thanks so much to everyone for your love and support of us and our beautiful little girl -- it means the world to us!
Now, on to the pictures!
We began on the playground just next to the pavilion (a wonderful set of slides and other climbing things with a blue UV shade, which is why the tint is a little off).
Back in the pavilion, Layna wanted to play with everyone. She was caught laughing with Aunt Nancy in this one:
Then the serious business of a birthday party began, starting with the cake! Of course we sang Happy Birthday first...
...then she blew out the candles on her gorgeous cake (with a little help from Brayden). --for close-ups of the cake, check the post from last week.
As you've already seen, Layna loved her cake (who wouldn't?!), but this picture was too good not to post!
...and Layna wasn't the only one there who loves cake!
After lots of cake, it was time to tear into the gifts. Now I know it seems like I always have a new favorite picture every few months, but I have to say that I think this next picture might be my favorite of Layna so far. It captures her personality perfectly! If you need a little happiness, take a gander:

Happy Birthday LAYNA!!
Layna was born and then *poof* it's already been a year!
To celebrate the big day, I thought we should take a quick walk through the last year.
...and finally, we've reached today. Happy Birthday, my little princess!

Hello Mr. Cow!
A couple weeks ago, the Saint Luke's Day School held a Chick-fil-A fundraiser. Although the main objective was to go to Chick-fil-A and buy lots of yummy food (for a good cause, of course) ...the real highlight of the day was having Mr. Cow visit the church!! I can't even tell you how much Brayden loved seeing Mr. Cow -- there are just no words. So instead of telling you about how he held a ten minute (one-way) conversation with Mr. Cow, I'll show you pictures instead:

Party sneak-peek
What's the best part of any first-birthday party?? ...the first bite of cake, of course! You know we at the Family Girata LOVE cake! So in honor of Layna's first birthday party (and because I haven't gotten any pictures off my camera), here are pictures of the grand event, beginning with the cake(s)...
First, the masterpiece Nicole created for Layna-bugs big party:
Next, the supporting players that I made to accompany the main event:
Finally, it was time. Notice the blur... this girl was getting busy!

Party outside!
Today we're celebrating Layna's imminent first birthday with a family party in Palm Harbor on Lake Tarpon. I'm sure that we're having a lot of fun right about... now (unless of course you're reading this at night... then I'm sure we had a lot of fun). I'm sure I'll have pictures of the party very soon, but in the meantime, enjoy these from last week at the playground:

Cooking Time
Time to cook applesauce. Some of the most fun Brayden has in the kitchen is cooking applesauce... which means mixing cinnamon into a cup of applesauce. He loves it, and I love it since it's so good for him. He wanted to show you how he does it:

Ride 'em, Buggie!
Layna's become quite a character -- and she LOVES to play, and play hard! One of the funniest things about her playtime is when she rides the horse. Here's a great video of the ride that I'm sure you'll love, too!

Another Song
As if you didn't believe me before... Brayden's still singing all the time! He's been asking to watch an "Elmo movie" every day for the last couple weeks. We have a series of videos that all meet that criteria (apparently). One of the videos features favorite nursery rhymes -- and Telly has trouble picking his favorite song between the three that share the same melody: 1) Twinkle Twinkle, 2) Baa-baa Black Sheep, and 3) the Alphabet Song. In the end, he comes up a with a clever way to "pick" them all... and Brayden's here to show you how:

...not to be outdone
Layna hates to be outdone by Brayden's performances, so Nicole caught her doing her own show...

Our song bird
As many of you know (anyone who has ever met him), Brayden loves to sing... and does so all the time. We thought one of his songs was too cute not to share. Enjoy!

Pizza Boy
As with all parents of little kids, we're always looking for fun ways to entertain them in between meals -- and even better is to entertain them while preparing meals! To that end, we've added pizza making to our dinner repertoire. Here's the little chef at work:

Walking Around
It occurred to me that I mentioned Layna was walking and then never posted a video -- sorry, friends! So we grabbed the camera and took a little video just a few minutes ago and wanted to get it to you as soon as possible. She's walking decent distances these days, although there is still a lot of care between each step. You'll notice that she's holding her new favorite thing: a straw cup with apple juice (very watered down). If she had her choice, she'd never put it down! Enjoy!

Let it snow!
Lo and behold -- when we woke up this morning it was snowing!! All in all we received about 3 inches. What a March surprise!
Brayden ran downstairs, pressed his face to the front window, and screamed "It's snowing!!"
He and Layna were thrilled about the snow and had a great time playing in the backyard. While I was at church, they played a bit in the yard...
...but it was still snowing, so they took a break and decided to wait to play any more until I came home.
This snow was nearly perfect to roll up -- notice how completely clean the snow comes off the ground when we rolled it up. We built a great snowman (or as great as Floridians can do...) and Brayden had a great time! He was really into it, helping pick out the necessary rocks and sticks.
Don't worry -- we didn't leave Layna out in the cold. She hung around in her wagon at the beginning, before getting into the action, too.
Brayden decided to put some finishing touches on our snowman -- Mickey ears, of course!
